The engine remains a perfectly square 72.0 x 72.0mm for 293.1cc of actual displacement (compared to the RR’s oversquare 73.0 x 69.9mm and 292.6cc), has Beta’s adjustable Progressive Valve power valve system, is electric start (with kickstarting an option), sports a nickel-plated Arrow expansion chamber with aluminum silencer, and remains a six-speed. A switch allows the rider to choose between two ignition timing maps to suit either wet or dry conditions. There’s no oil injection system so the rider will need to mix gas before pouring it into the 2.5-gallon translucent plastic tank. A Keihin PWK 38mm carburetor atomizes the premix before entering the cylinder with its 11.6:1 compression ratio combustion chamber.
